    Job Description

Come help Axelerant make happiness possible for yourself and others as our next Frontend Developer. We’re an incubator for innovative products and services created to make the world a happier place and we want more like-minded, passionate, communicative, and giving folks to join us. As an Axelerant Frontend Developer, you will be working hard as you would be designing and implementing the look-and-feel of websites and related materials by creating sitemaps, wireframes, and visual design comps for internal and client-facing web projects. Next, you’ll design for multiple devices and interactions (such as desktops, touch devices like smartphones and tablets, and simpler devices like feature phones). Beyond using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP to implement the designs you create, you will usually be working within a templating framework or theming system, we work primarily with Drupal, but WordPress and others are coming along. Moreover, you will be needed to ensure a good user experience in all work you produce along with creating new visual designs and branding assets. You may need to work within established branding guidelines or style guides for client-facing projects. If you’re looking for your exact responsibilities, bah humbug. We're a real world organization, and they're going to be times when the unexpected happens, and you’re going to need to step up. We don’t know what it’s going to be or when, but it’ll be a challenge; it could be boring, or it could be something amazing. Either way we get through together, as a team. Past the role itself, as a person, when you don’t know the answer or are not sure what’s next, be willing to say such and go find out. If you’ve got something to share, do so, whether in our Slack channels or on our blog. Ultimately, we’re about getting the right things done at the right time and those who are passionate, open, and giving about whatever they’re masters of, will fit into Axelerant. We’re an organization with team members spread across multiple cultures and time zones. As such, you must be self-motivated in finding the right things to do and communicating proactively in English with the rest of the team. Responsibilities Inferred above. If not clear enough, you’ll probably be doing whatever it is you’re thinking of. If still not clear enough, you probably won’t fit into Axelerant. Requirements Ability to produce attractive designs and user-friendly interfaces. Experience creating designs within branding guidelines and style guides. Experience working with and producing sitemaps, wireframes, visual design comps. Experience with front-end development. Writing HTML/CSS by hand. Experience designing, marking up, and styling page templates in a CMS (such as Drupal or WordPress) or templating framework. Interest in designing sites for mobile devices. Proficient in graphic design software (Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator or Gimp/Inkscape). A professional, yet personable, demeanor. You must be able to represent yourself and Axelerant to our clients, other members of your team, and to open-source communities at large. Enthusiasm for open-source philosophy and community involvement. Intellectual curiosity and passion for making really cool stuff for the web. Preferred Experience designing, theming or developing for Drupal. Experience with at least one JavaScript framework (such as jQuery). Experience with CSS preprocessors such as Sass/Compass or LESS. Experience designing or building websites for multiple devices and interactions (such as desktops, touch devices like smartphones and tablets, and simpler devices like feature phones). Previous work on open-source projects and adhering to coding standards. Bachelor’s degree or higher. Bonus Points Experience building websites for mobile devices. Experience working with large, high-performance website. Has an active used and supported, contributed Drupal module. Understand differences of HTML and HTML5, CSS and CSS3.
