5 Days FREE Workshop on Contextual Inquiry @ IDC, IIT Bombay

The workshop will focus on Contextual Inquiry (CI), which is an ethnographic method used in User Centred Design (UCD) process. A CI is done during the initial phases of the design process to understand the end users better. CI is a powerful method and yields very rich data that can be used for constructing product specifications.

The workshop will be conducted jointly by Dr. Anirudha Joshi, who is a well known expert in the field of HCI, and Devanuj, a research scholar with wide experience, of IDC, IIT Bombay.

The workshop will be particularly useful for designers & design students, entrepreneurs, Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICTD) researchers/NGOs, and software product managers.

The workshop is part of an ongoing research on technology adoption by low-literate users. While we are providing the instructions and guidance for free, we look forward to use the data generated during the hands-on exercises for our own use.

The workshop will be held in three phases:

Phase 1: Introduction
Dr. Joshi will acquaint the participants with the basics of User Studies.
It will be followed by an introduction to CI, its conduct and the interpretation of the field data. In the process, the participants will also learn Affinity Building–a technique for data interpretation.
Dec 12 , 2012 to Dec 14, 2012 (3 days)
Place: Industrial Design Centre (IDC), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, Mumbai 400076

Phase 2: Data Collection
