Executing interaction design as a part of a multi-disciplinary team Collaborating on user experience planning with product owners and engineering architects Consulting with end users and business stakeholders in shaping the vision for the product Researching and careful adoption of interaction design trends Define the Mobile and Web UX standards and evangelize to the rest of the organization to build a consistent experience for all VMware applications. Job Description

Create world-class, user-centered designs through consideration of market research, business requirements, customer feedback, and usability study findings. Quickly and thoroughly create diagrams, wireframes, detailed visual mockups and prototypes to communicate high-level design strategies and detailed interaction behaviors. Practice user-centered design by participating in user research and incorporating data, customer feedback, and technical constraints/opportunities. Collaborate with other UX designers to evolve existing patterns for new initiatives. Design the information architecture, interface, and interaction flow of the web and mobile experience. Direct the visual design of the web and mobile applications. Present design work to the user experience team, product team, executives, and external partners for review and feedback. Support, coach, and guide two UX designers to deliver work for multiple global initiatives

Skills

• A portfolio and samples of work demonstrating experience creating great user-centered, customer-focused design solutions (bonus points for live site links or apps).
• 5+ years of experience as a product designer, user experience designer, interaction designer, information architect, or similar role.
• Bachelor’s degree in design, human-centered design (HCD) or human-computer interaction (HCI), or 4+ years equivalent professional experience
• Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills.
• Experience working in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team to ship products for mobile and desktop.
• Experience with a variety of design tools including Sketch, Axure, Flinto, and Invision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with complex, globally scoped projects.
• MS in Human Factors, HCDE
• Experience in a highly agile/scrum environment.
• Ability to work in a startup environment.
• Demonstrated history of acquiring and taking action on user data (e.g. conducting usability studies, user interviews, contextual inquiry, analytics, data science requests)

Partner with user experience researchers to talk directly with customers to understand the user needs, goals and motivations. Conceptualize and define a design strategy that supports customer needs and business goals. Provide detailed end-end workflows and user flows illustrating the solution. Collaborate with technical writers to create diagrams, flow charts, information graphics, and technical illustrations according to department standards and guidelines. Revise existing diagrams on request Create icons Clean up problematic screenshots or icons so they publish well Work with a content management system to maintain a department illustration library Advise the department on updating standards and guidelines if necessary Prioritize requests and meet deadlines. Understand and follow established work processes Be aware of departmental goals; set individuals goals with Manager’s assistance

Skills

• BS/BA in Graphic Design or a related field.
• At least 3-5 years of experience in a similar role
• Proficient knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat
• Knowledge of key IT concepts and workflows
• Experience and knowledge of web design standards and practices as well as UI and UE principles
• Working knowledge of graphics animation packages used in video production like Motion and AfterEffects
• Working knowledge of other specialized software products like Visio and SnagIt
• Working knowledge of standard graphics formats and their advantages, appropriate use, etc.
