Job Description

Responsible for the overall leadership of delivering and coaching design project and program teams to complete complex projects and all deliverables related to design, design-research or production work on time, on cost, and within 3M quality requirements in a self-directed manner with minimal consultation from the supervisor. Engages in identification, analysis, and implementation of continuous improvement projects; coaching the business, advocating for change, leading change management, within their business and function. Responsible for partnering across many functions / disciplines within 3M, and with external creative and research agencies to translate customer goals into design objectives. Produces design deliverables consistent with project objectives and strategies. Leads regular meetings with teams to review design concepts, and drives to final direction. Attends and studies design / market / technology research to interpret consumer feedback that assists in the completion of design projects. Responsible for agency relationships, project workflow, and budget accountability. Maintains a highly-developed knowledge of brand and 3M guidelines and ensures accurate implementation in every project. Demonstrates professional curiosity and explores new ideas, methods and tools to enhance projects.

Skills

• A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in design, design strategy, design management, brand management, design research, industrial/product design or graphic design.
• A minimum of 8 combined years of relevant design work experience.
• Master’s degree in design, design strategy, graphic design or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 8-10 years of experience with identifying and tackling business challenges, bringing design-driven solutions to market. Previous experience in design for urban spaces, Retail, hospitality, commercial graphics and / public transportation design is preferred.
• Proven record of using research to answer business strategy questions and needs.
• Strong story-telling and presentation skills and a passion for creative expression and Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Strong skills in illustration, surface design, and/or color, finish, material design.
• Proficiency in 2D/3D/interactive software tools to create design solutions.
